Foreign trade has left the United States of America in debt. We need to trade with closer countries to allow strong relationships with our neighboring countries. Ideally, all trade should be environmentally safe and have little or no negative environmental impact.
China: We should reduce trade with China because that is one of the main reasons for our debt. Also we can't blindly trust China based on past incidents in which lead was found in dangerous levels in the paint on children's toys. In addition, China has a long standing history of human rights abuses; the factory workers are often not treated humanly, which goes against the ethical principles of our party.
Cuba: We should re-open trade with Cuba, encouraging increased trade within North America. We believe opening trade with Cuba would strengthen our inter-governmental relationships. We will also encourage development in Cuba. By trading with Cuba, we will not have to pay as much to ship products, such as sugar to the United States, and provide meaningful employment to many Cubans.
Indonesia and other clothing/textile producing countries: Most of our clothing and textiles is imported form Indonesia, China and other South-Eastern Asian countries. We should encourage manufacturing of more products inside the USA. This will not only boost the economy in America, it will also reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are created from shipping things over the oceans.
Cars: Cars made by foreign manufacturers, such as Toyota, Honda, and BMW, can only be bought and imported to the USA if they are hybrid or electric and get at least 35 miles to a gallon. By doing this we will reduce the USA large carbon footprint.
